We are delighted to release this first example of the project fully in action, whereby we received a collection of sound files from a member of the public in Japan and now here they are presented as a Japan Sound Portrait. Rob Nava-Moreno came to an event we held at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan back in April and we are very grateful to him for then sending in a range of sounds recorded whilst walking about Tokyo the following day. These have now been edited together into a sequence that sonically portrays the experience of riding the Yamanote line, with all of the wonderful specially designed identifying melodies that involves.
This is exactly the type of track that we hope to be able to produce in greater quantities after receiving more crowd-sourced submissions from people throughout Japan, to then be made available on a USB stick, or embedded on a T-shirt, or on limited edition vinyl, or loaded onto a Sound Bento Speaker. So if you would like us to be able to create more of these kind of tracks by visiting Japan to encourage more people to send in their sounds, then please make a contribution to our Indiegogo campaign here
